Shri Ram Related to Ramayan Interesting Facts in English

Ramayan is one of the most revered and influential epics in Hinduism. It tells the story of Shri Ram, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya.

Shri Ram is considered to be an ideal person and a perfect ruler, who upheld righteousness (dharma) and fought against evil. Here are some interesting facts related to Shri Ram and Ramayan that you may not know.

– Shri Ram was born on Chaitra Shukla Navami, which is celebrated as Rama Navami every year. According to some calculations, his date of birth was January 10, 5114 BCE.

– Shri Ram had three brothers: Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna. They were born from Dasharatha’s other wives: Kaikeyi and Sumitra. They were all devoted to Shri Ram and accompanied him in his exile and war.

– Shri Ram married Sita, the daughter of King Janaka of Mithila, who was found in a furrow as a baby. Sita was an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. Shri Ram won her hand by breaking the bow of Lord Shiva in a swayamvara (a ceremony where a princess chooses her husband from among many suitors).

– Shri Ram was exiled for 14 years by his father Dasharatha, who was bound by a promise he made to Kaikeyi, his youngest wife. Kaikeyi wanted her son Bharata to be the king instead of Shri Ram, and asked Dasharatha to banish Shri Ram to the forest. Shri Ram accepted his fate without any resentment and left Ayodhya with Sita and Lakshmana.

– During his exile, Shri Ram met many sages, allies and enemies. He also killed many demons who harassed the sages and the people in the forest. One of them was Ravana, the king of Lanka, who abducted Sita and took her to his island kingdom. Ravana was a powerful and learned ruler, who had a boon from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed by any god or demon. He was also a great devotee of Lord Shiva.

– To rescue Sita from Ravana, Shri Ram formed an alliance with Sugriva, the king of monkeys, and Hanuman, his loyal servant and devotee. Hanuman flew across the ocean to Lanka and found Sita in Ravana’s garden. He gave her Shri Ram’s ring as a token of his identity and assured her of his help. He also set fire to Lanka with his tail after being captured and tortured by Ravana’s army.

– Shri Ram fought a fierce war with Ravana and his army for 10 days. He used various weapons and strategies to overcome Ravana’s defenses and allies. He finally killed Ravana with a divine arrow that pierced his navel, where he kept a pot of nectar that gave him immortality.

– After killing Ravana, Shri Ram crowned Vibhishana, Ravana’s younger brother, as the king of Lanka. Vibhishana was a righteous and noble person, who opposed Ravana’s evil deeds and joined Shri Ram’s side. He also helped Shri Ram in the war by revealing Ravana’s secrets and weaknesses.

– Before returning to Ayodhya with Sita, Shri Ram asked her to undergo a fire test (agni pariksha) to prove her purity and chastity. Sita agreed to enter a blazing fire, but she came out unscathed by the grace of Lord Agni, the god of fire, who testified her innocence and virtue.

– After completing his 14 years of exile, Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya with Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman and other allies. He was welcomed by Bharata, who had refused to take the throne and had kept Shri Ram’s sandals on it as a symbol of his authority. Shri Ram was coronated as the king of Ayodhya and established a golden age (Ram Rajya) of peace, prosperity and justice.

– Shri Ram ruled Ayodhya for 11,000 years according to poetic convention, which means 30 years and 6 months according to actual calculation. He had two sons: Lava and Kusha, who were born in Valmiki’s ashram after Sita was sent away by Shri Ram due to public suspicion about her character. They later met their father and mother and were reunited with them.

– Shri Ram left his mortal body by entering the river Sarayu along with Sita, Lakshmana, Bharata, Shatrughna and other followers. He returned to his original form as Lord Vishnu and ascended to his abode in Vaikuntha along with Goddess Lakshmi.

These are some of the fascinating facts related to Shri Ram and Ramayan that show his greatness and glory as an avatar of Lord Vishnu. His life story is an inspiration for millions of people who follow his ideals and values.
